2008 Annual General Meeting

SEN will be holding our Annual General Meeting on Saturday, June 14th at the Redberry Biosphere Reserve Interpretive Centre, Redberry Lake Regional Park. Come early and enjoy a nature walk at 11 am with Mike Finley, long-time cottage owner, member of the Saskatoon Nature Society and connoisseur of wild herbal teas. Bring a picnic or buy your lunch at the park concession and enjoy some visiting time with ecologically-minded folks from around the province over the noon hour.

Guest Speaker: Larry Hawrysh, Chair of the Board of Directors of the Redberry Lake Biosphere Reserve, will give a short talk about Biosphere Reserves. (Please note that the Petitions Process seminar has been postponed.)

We will be facilitating car-pooling from Saskatoon, and Regina if required. Please take this opportunity to tell us about your organization's work, to get updates on SEN's activities and to give input into what is essentially your eco-network. RSVP by phone, 652-1275 or email sen@link.ca.

Call for Nominations

The SEN Board for 2008/2009 will be elected at our Annual General Meeting in Emma Lake on June 14th. Organizations that are members of SEN may nominate someone from their group to be on the SEN Board of Directors.

The board sets the direction and priorities of the organization, develops policy, oversees the budget, and identifies and pursues opportunities for networking within the environmental community. A board that includes people from many different groups, that represents a variety of issues, perspectives and geographic areas of the province will help to ensure the environmentalists in Saskatchewan have the support that good networking can provide.

Is there someone in your organization who would like to be part of the SEN Board? Is there someone who your organization would like to nominate? How about you?

Duties/expectations of board members are as follows:

  • Be available to attend one meeting per month by phone or in person
  • Be able to be part of one subcommittee or chair one working group
  • Read and respond to SEN board correspondence (e.g. minutes, requests for feedback on letters, etc.)
  • Be available to members of SEN groups as a communication liaison between board and membership
  • Attend general membership meetings and meetings with the Saskatchewan Environment Minister
  • Strongly believe in the value of networking among environmental organizations in Saskatchewan and across Canada through the Canadian Environmental Network.
  • Actively participate in discussions and development of SEN policy
  • Ask questions when you need clarification and if you disagree with others, speak openly so that discussion can occur.
  • Make SEN meetings a priority.

Please send in your nomination with a short (150 to 500 word) biography to the SEN office by June 6th, or else simply bring copies to the AGM on June 14th.
