On April 29, 1998, Canada signed the Kyoto Protocol on Climate Change. The Kyoto Protocol calls for Canada and other signatories to reduce emissions of greenhouse gases (e.g. carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide) over the next 15 years. Targets for emissions reductions vary among the signatory countries; Canada's reduction target is six per cent below 1990 levels by 2008-2012.
The Action Plan to Reduce Greenhouse Gases and Air Pollution, the Government of Canada's plan to regulate both greenhouse gas emissions and air pollutants from industrial emitters, was released on April 26, 2007. On March 10, 2008, the Government announced further details of the greenhouse gas emissions regulations of the Turning the Corner plan, after extensive consultations with environmental groups, industry and other stakeholders.
Technology Early Action Measures (TEAM) is an interdepartmental technology investment program established under the federal government's Climate Change Action Plan. TEAM supports projects that are designed to develop technologies that mitigate greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions nationally and internationally, and that sustain economic and social development.
Natural Resources Canada released the full science report From Impacts to Adaptation: Canada in a Changing Climate 2007 on March 7th, 2008. It can be downloaded by chapter.
