Research Institutions and Publications

  • The Alberta Centre for Boreal Studies

    was initiated by the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society (Edmonton Chapter) for the purpose of providing reliable up-to-date information to the public about the ecology and management of boreal forests in western Canada. Boreal Centre reports have recently been compiled into a book, Alternative Futures, Alberta's Boreal Forest at the Crossroads. Individual chapters of the book are available for free in PDF format.
  • The National Forestry Data Base

    is used to compile national statistics. Most of the data are provided by the provincial or territorial resource management organizations. Federal land data are compiled by the CFS and are provided by the responsible federal departments.
  • The Prince Albert Model Forest

    is part of the Canadian network of model forests. It is a partnership of First Nations, industry and government working together to implement integrated programs in land use planning and First Nations business opportunities while maintaining a sustainable healthy forest ecosystem.
  • ForestFirst

    (formerly the Saskatchewan Forest Centre) was established as a not for profit corporation in 2001. The Board of Directors includes representation from industry, government agencies, and Aboriginal groups involved in forest development.     is a gateway website on forests and forestry in Canada. It provides quick access to all the Internet sites of the federal and provincial governments, the forest industries, service and supply companies, associations and NGOs, consultants, education and research, forestry news, employment opportunities, and much more.
