Destination Conservation: Saving Energy and Money at School
Destination Conservation, a combined technical/educational approach to energy conservation in schools, has saved 11 Saskatchewan School Divisions over $650,000 and prevented over 5,500 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions in just six years of operation.
Since the program was launched in 1986, DC has helped hundreds of schools across North America to save energy, conserve water, and reduce waste. In Saskatchewan:
- 70 participating schools have saved over $650,000 through reduced utility costs
- DC members have saved over 5 million kWh of electricity and over 600,000 m3 of natural gas
- DC schools have significantly reduced waste
- 70 schools involved in the program have prevented over 5,500 tonnes of CO2 emissions.
The program is managed by the Saskatchewan Environmental Society. Costs of the program are recouped from energy savings.
